Infections with the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV) in swine are highly prevalent and economically important for the swine industry.
The virotype PRRSV RT-PCR Kit allows the simultaneous detection of the North American (NA) and European (EU) PRRSV genotypes in samples from swine.
Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV)
PRRSV is an RNA virus of the order Nidovirales, family Arteriviridae. It is classified into the European (EU/I) and the North American (NA/II) genotypes. Infection can cause respiratory disease in piglets and reproductive failure in pregnant sows. In 2006, a highly pathogenic NA strain of PRRSV (HP PRRSV) emerged which is characterized by high fever and high mortality in swine of all ages.
